5,907 people vaccinated in Haryana on Day 1

CHANDIGARH: The Haryana health department on Saturday administer­ed the coronaviru­s vaccine to around 5,907 beneficiar­ies at 77 immunisati­on sites across the state. The vaccinatio­n target on the first day of the drive was 7,533 people.

ACS, health, Rajeev Arora said “The department achieved over 78% vaccine coverage of the targeted population on the first day.” Gurugram (101% coverage), followed by Palwal (95%) and Ambala (94%) were the leading districts in terms of coverage of targeted population.

The vaccine was later administer­ed to several eminent doctors, including director general health services (DGHS) Dr Suraj Bhan Kamboj, additional DGHS Dr Veena Singh, state Immunisati­on officer Dr Virender Ahlawat and director, maternal and child health, national health mission Dr. VK Bansal.

Arora said of the 77 immunisati­on sites, the Civil Dispensary, Sector 4, Panchkula and Government Primary School, Wazirabad, Gurugram, had a two-way connectivi­ty to the Prime Minister’s address.

Health minister Anil Vij said, “Gradually 67 lakh beneficiar­ies will be administer­ed the vaccine in a phased manner, of which 2.25 lakh healthcare workers will be administer­ed the vaccine in the first phase,’’ Vij said.

The ACS, health, said doctors who had been administer­ed the vaccine were doing fine.

NHM director Prabhjot Singh said the vaccine is not to be administer­ed to pregnant women, lactating mothers and children below 18 years of age. Singh said instructio­ns had been given to refrain from administer­ing the vaccine on immunisati­on days or during essential health activities such as the pulse-polio drive and on public holidays.

792 health workers vaccinated in Ambala, Yamunanaga­r

As many as 361 of 400 health workers got the jab in Ambala while 431 of 600 beneficiar­ies were vaccinated in Yamunanaga­r. In Yamunanaga­r, the department had setup six centres for vaccinatio­n with a target of 100 doses per day.
