Ludhiana Class-8 girl wins PM’s award for innovation

LUDHIANA: Namya Joshi, a Class 8 student of Sat Paul Mittal School, Dugri, Ludhiana, is among 32 children across the country, who has been awarded the Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Bal Puraskar, 2021.

The children have been awarded for exceptiona­l abilities and outstandin­g accomplish­ment in innovation, scholastic­s, sports, arts and culture, social service and bravery.

Joshi has been awarded in the innovation category and Prime Minister Narendra Modi will interact, virtually, with the awardee on January 25 through video-conferenci­ng.

Only student from Punjab to be felicitate­d

Joshi is the only student from Punjab who has been awarded.

She said, “This achievemen­t is the tremendous highlight of my academic life. I feel fortunate and Monday is a big day for me. I am looking forward to interact with the PM in the virtual meet.”

Last year, Joshi had bagged first prize at an online science fest organized by Innovation Hub of Pushpa Gujral Science City in collaborat­ion with Grassroots Innovation­s Augmentati­on Network (GIAN) to display their innovative ideas and creations. The fest was intended to encourage love of science among the youth through enquiry-based learning and to convert their innovative ideas into real life models/ projects.

She had presented an innovative working 3D model, Sustainabl­e World-Better World using Minecraft.

She also represente­d India in the United Nations General Assembly and won the coveted ‘The Outstandin­g Delegate Award’ in an event held at New York last year.

She was the youngest in the group and the UCP Collaborat­ive Project prepared under her leadership received the Honour of the Technology Award.
