SANGRUR : A 40-year-old man was murdered over an alleged dispute due to landing of a pigeon in his house at Bhumsi village near Sangrur district’s Amargarh town on Friday.

The incident took place in the fields and sharp-edged weapons were used in the crime, the police said. A case under sections 302 (murder), 120-B (criminal conspiracy) and 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of the Indian Penal Code was registered on Saturday against five persons, including three by name, for killing Ranvir Singh, alias Rana.

Those booked were identified as Gurpreet Singh, alias Preet, Kamal and Gurbaksh Singh, from the same village. The victim is survived by his wife and a seven-year-old son. As per the first information report (FIR), the accused had called Ranvir for talks in the wake of the altercation they had with him on January 12 over a pigeon landing at his residence. “My husband sustained severe injuries on his legs, arms and head after the attack. He was rushed to government hospital Amargarh but the doctors referred him to a Malerkotla hospital where he was declared dead,” Rana’s wife Sharanjit Kaur alleged in her complaint.

Amargarh police station in-charge Sukhdeep Singh said, “Both the victim and accused had pigeons. We have started investigation into the matter. No arrest has been made so far.”
