HP sees record single-day deaths

DHARAMSHAL­A: Himachal Pradesh on Thursday recorded 3,040 fresh Covid infections, the highest single-day spike since the outbreak, taking the state’s caseload to 96,929.

It also turned out to be the deadliest day with the state recording 40 fatalities, the highest single-day tally since the outbreak in March 2020. With this, the hill state’s Covid toll has climbed to 1,447.

With 610 cases, Kangra reported the maximum infections, while 539 cases were reported in Solan, 412 in Shimla, 307 in Mandi, 291 in Sirmaur, 215 in Bilaspur, 193 in Hamirpur, 192 in Chamba, 93 in Lahaul-Spiti, 82 each in Kullu and Una and 24 in Kinnaur. Kangra also reported the highest deaths in the state with 17 fatalities, followed by eight deaths in Shimla, five in Mandi, three in Solan and two each in Bilaspur, Sirmaur and Chamba.

Meanwhile, active cases in the state have reached have reached 17,835 while recoveries touched 77,576 after 1,241 more people recuperate­d.

Kangra is the worst-hit district with its Covid count reaching 17,191, followed by Shimla where 14,581 people have been infected so far and Mandi with 13,917 cases. Solan’s caseload climbed to 12,696 while Sirmaur has 6,861 cases, Una 6,611 cases, Hamirpur 6,222, Kullu 5,807, Bilaspur 5,231 , Chamba, 4,243, Lahaul-Spiti 1,857 and Kinnaur 1,712.

Defaulters to serve in Covid care centres

Kangra deputy commission­er Rakesh Kumar Prajapati said it will be mandatory for event organisers to upload the list of attendees on the online portal covid.hp.gov.in while applying for permission for marriages.

The list will have also to be shared with the gram panchayat pradhan and ward member.

If any person, whose name is not in the list, is caught attending the marriage, he or she will be deployed on Covid duty.

Industrial units, pvt hospitals in Kangra told to declare O2 stock

To ensure adequate stock of medical oxygen for Covid-19 patients, the Kangra district authoritie­s on Thursday asked industrial units, private hospitals and individual­s to declare their stock of oxygen cylinders.

Deputy commission­er Rakesh Kumar Prajapati said Kangra district has more than 4,000 active cases and the infrastruc­ture dedicated for Covid-19 patients is under stress due to referral cases from neighbouri­ng districts.

He said it has been brought to his notice that industrial units, MSMEs, traders, dealers, private hospitals, commercial establishm­ents and persons in Kangra district are holding stocks of unutilised medical and industrial oxygen cylinders.

Any stock which remains undeclared and is discovered thereafter shall be liable to confiscati­on.
