Credit war among Congress leaders Bajwa wants SIT to speed things up
Punjab Congress leaders are trying extra hard to claim credit these days. On May 3, Khadoor Sahib MP Jasbir Singh Dimpa inaugurated a basketball court in Rayya town. The court, according to local councillor Robin Mann, was constructed at Rs 3.5 lakh. In the night, Congress MLA from Baba Bakala constituency, Santokh Singh Bhalaipur, reached the court with his aides and re-inaugurated the ground. Both the leaders have been at loggerheads, though not publicly. Dimpa’s close aide Robin Mann alleged that Bhalaipur and his team also laid waste the foundation stone on which the MP name was inscribed. Baba Bakala assembly constituency is also the home turf of Dimpa. lease it out for the past five years, says he will cultivate his land this time. “It was the call of some miscreants, but enough is enough. I dare them to enter my fields. I am a farmer and I have been in farming for many years,” he said.
Known for making subtle political moves, cabinet minister Tript Rajinder Singh last questioned the deadline of six months given to the newly constituted special investigations team (SIT) led by ADGP LK Yadav. Instead of directly asking the government to shorten the timeline, Bajwa indirectly conveyed that two month is a justified timeframe. “He (Yadav) is a very competent officer, and I am sure he will submit report early, in two months,” he hoped. Acting on the orders of the Punjab and Haryana HC, the state government has constituted the three-member SIT to probe the 2015 Kotkapura police firing case.
