JAIPUR: A 24-year-old army aspirant ran for over 48 hours from Rajasthan’s Sikar city to New Delhi — covering more than 300km — to urge the central government to resume the recruitment process.

Dressed in a white vest and holding Tricolour, Suresh Bhinchar, a resident of Nawa town in Nagaur district, started his run from March 29 to attend a demonstration in Delhi seeking to start the army recruitment. Bhinchar’s initiative also found a mention in chief minister (CM) Ashok Gehlot’s tweet.

“Shri Suresh Bhinchar of Nagaur has attracted the attention of the Central Government for starting Army Recruitment by running about 300 kms from Sikar to Delhi. Last month, I wrote a letter to the Defence Minister demanding to start army recruitment, which is closed from the last two years (sic),” Gehlot tweeted.

He said, “There are lakhs of vacancies in the army. Central government should start army recruitment as soon as possible.”

Bhinchar said, “In last seven years, I have made over a dozen attempts but unfortunately couldn’t clear on medical grounds. I have crossed eligible age of 23 for open army recruitment as for two years recruitment wasn’t done due to Covid.”

Even the recruitment for territorial army, for which the age is 18 to 42 years, was not conducted, he added.

“Being in the Indian Army is my only dream. I want to be like Milkha Singh and run for the country while serving in the army,’ he said.

Bhinchar who belongs to a family of farmers , is one of the eight siblings.

“My parents were against the run due to the distance and high temperature,” he said.

“My uncle’s son is in army and a friend of mine also got selected in army. They helped me in preparing for it,” he said.
