BATHINDA: The war of words between the Congress and Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) in the Rampura Phul assembly segment over their respective party men allegedly being falsely implicated by the police escalated on Sunday with both parties holding protest rallies at Bhagta in this district.

Congress leader Capt Amarinder Singh targeted rural development and panchayats minister Sikander Singh Maluka, who in turn challenged Amarinder to prove the allegations by getting an inquiry conducted by an agency about the police cases registered, which the Congress had been blaming as politically motivated.

Addressing a rally at Bhagta in the morning, Amarinder sounded a note of caution, “Let me make it clear once again that we will not only hold you accountable but will also ensure that you regret what you did to our people.”

Amarinder addressed the rally on his way to Jaitu in Faridkot in order to address a rally there as part of his statewide rallies. He also met Ranjit Kaur, mother of Jagsir Singh Jagga who, the Cong ress blame, has been falsely implicated in a criminal case by the police at the behest of the SAD.

In the evening, Maluka, while addressing a rally, challenged Amarinder to get an inquiry conducted in the cases, which the Congress dubbed as false, saying the Congress was playing politics over the dead by resorting to staging protests by placing bodies on the road.

Interestingly, Maluka said Congressmen were not being falsely implicated; rather police were falsely implicating SAD supporters under pressure from the Congress.
