FARIDKOT: The Faridkot police have held a man, convicted for murder, for trying to obtain passport using a fake identity.

The accused is Amarinder Singh of Fazilka district. He committed a murder in 2013 and was serving a term of life imprisonment at Ferozepur jail. He was on parole since June 2015 and was supposed to return on July 25, 2015.

However, he jumped the parole and started living at different places using different identities.

Amarinder applied for a passport, posing as Robin Singh of Arianwala Kalan village in Faridkot district. Head constable Jaspal Singh and constable Gurpreet Singh went for routine investigation at the address given by him.

While investigating about Robin Singh, they met the village sarpanch and other residents, none were aware of any such person residing in the village. The police contacted ‘Robin’ on his mobile and asked him to meet them. He showed them the documents and tried to bribe them.

The police sensed something wrong and asked him to call any of his friends residing at Arianwala village or to visit the sarpanch’s house with them. He tried to run away but the policemen caught him and informed their seniors at Sadar Police station.

During interrogation, Robin confessed that his real name was Amarinder Singh and he was sentenced for murder.

He told the police that he made the fake identity papers with the help of some people. He then applied for a passport and was planning to leave the country.

ASI Amarejeet Singh said Satnam Singh and Parmod Kumar of Rampura Phull, provided the fake birth certificate to Amarinder. Surinder Kaur of Bathinda, provided him fake educational certificates. The three were held by the police and sent to judicial custody for 14 days.
