A MUSLIM TAKING MORE THAN ONE WIFE IS RARE

- Azhar A Khan, Rampur

This refers to Ramachandra Guha’s article Left apologists for the status quo (Past & Present, July 17). In our acrimonious times, it is rare occasion when a Muslim takes more than one wife. On the face of it, no community is willing to amend its personal laws or accept a uniform civil code. If triple talaq is injurious to a Muslim woman’s self-respect, there are competent religious luminaries from world-renowned seminaries to address such issues. This way families can avoid going in for litigation.
