CHANDIGARH: Haryana urban local bodies minister Kavita Jain made a failed attempt to get a condemnation resolution passed in the state assembly against those mocking Jain Muni Tarun Sagar.

Kavita Jain proposed the condemnation resolution after the Question Hour got over, saying that there was resentment in the Jain community over insulting remarks made by some people against the revered saint.

“The House should pass a resolution condemning persons who have insulted the state assembly by making such remarks against him,” she said.

The Digambar Jain monk, who does not wear clothes, had delivered a discourse to MLAs in the state assembly on Friday.

Congress MLA Karan Singh Dalal, however, questioned the condemnation resolution move by saying that the monk was highly respected and his name should not be brought into the House in this manner.

He also said there were requests from saints belonging to Mewat Dalit community and Sikh samaj for discourses. “We should have them here to deliver their discourses,” he said.

While parliamentary affairs minister Ram Bilas Sharma also tried to push the condemnation resolution proposed by his ministerial colleague, leader of Opposition Abhay Singh Chautala was also not in favour of passing the resolution. However, much of what he said could not be heard due to din in the House. Chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar intervened in the discussion to say that a case had been registered in Ambala in the matter.
