BOVINE SMUGGLING

(August 30). Haryana government deserves praise for tagging all cattle and issuing identity cards to cow protectors in its bid to curb smuggling. Legally, milch and draught cattle can only be allowed to enter other states under a set procedure, but, unproductive, disabled and emaciated animals are being smuggled, obviously to the abattoirs. Need is to keep a vigil on cattle fairs. It is also imperative that all stray cattle be immediately rehabilitated.
