CALLING ATTENTION MOTION Tempers run high during three-hour debate, several legislators get on verge of losing cool amid heated exhanges in House
CHANDIGARH: As tempers ran high for over three hours at a stretch, many MLAs belonging to the ruling BJP as well as opposition INLD and Congress parties repeatedly got on the verge of losing cool during the calling attention motion on the law and order situation in Haryana on the last day of monsoon session of assembly on Wednesday.
Leader of Opposition Abhay Chautala, who moved the motion, demanded to know from chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar the comparative law and order situation during Indian National Lok Dal regime beginning 2000, the 10-year Congress rule thereafter and about two-year term of the present BJP government.
Khattar, in his reply, held that he had all the details, though some of that might bring up some unpleasant issues to the fore as there were dark periods during all regimes.
Khattar referred to the Meham mayhem in which an independent candidate was shot dead during polls by the INLD-founded green brigade during late 1980s.
The CM said that there was an impression that the green brigade members indulged in grabbing property. But the INLD MLAs angrily objected to it, with Abhay contradicting it saying here was no such case involving green brigade members.
The House plunged in din when Congress MLA Karan Dalal said that there were many cases of land grabbing by green brigade members.
Khattar further said that while there was liquor mafia during HVP-BJP government headed by Bansi Lal, there was a recruitment scam during the INLD regime later and subsequently there were mining mafia and land and CLU-related cases during the Congress regime.
Pandemonium gripped the House as Abhay raised the unprecedented violence during Jat agitation and the treasury benches, led by Capt Abhimanyu, took up the alleged hand of some Congress leaders.
At this, the Congress MLA Geeta Bhukkal also stood up and spoke on the top of her voice that it was shocking the government was getting CBI probe into the arson of Capt Abhimanyu’s residence while the fact was that hundreds of people had greatly suffered during the quota stir and even her house was torched.
Former chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda was also seen getting on the verge of losing cool repeatedly, saying that he felt hurt on such insinuations and that he was hurt by the unfortunate violence for which he wanted to visit him (Capt Abhimanyu’s) and other victims, but was not allowed to come to Rohtak by the civil authorities.
While the ruckus continued, Congress MLA Anand Singh Dangi raised the issue of Meham mayhem and said he wanted to bring out some facts about more killings and rigging in this context. He was instantly opposed by Abhay who even asked Dangi how he dared to raise the issue. Dangi also replied in exactly the same manner.
KADIAN OFFERS RESIGNATION
Minutes later, Congress MLA Raghubir Kadian announced to resign as MLA if Khattar could find out even 5% people who could say a good word for BJP government. Khattar instantly demanded his resignation first, following which, he said he would find out much more than that. “Who has given you the right to give such verdicts?” Khattar angrily asked him.
Meanwhile, when contacted to know the fate of the resignation tendered by Kadian, speaker Kanwar Pal told HT that though he had given a letter to him, it could not considered to be a resignation.
His letter read that a survey in the state be conducted to know people’s support to BJP and if BJP would have people’s support, he would resign, the speaker said. Conditional resignations are not accepted.
