CHANDIGARH: Congress MLAs brought up the issue of “encroachment” on a major portion of Pandit Shriram Sharma Rangshala in Rohtak by newly inducted minister Manish Grover in the state assembly on Wednesday.

The Congress MLAs, waving copies of a Hindustan Times news report on encroachment by the minister, to set up his private office, said that the Rangshala had been set up in the memory of freedom fighter Pt Shriram Sharma.

“The local bodies minister set up his office in the building meant for artists. How could he occupy this space? It is a serious matter. The CM must look into the conduct of his minister,” Congress legislator Kuldeep Sharma said.

HT had on Tuesday published the story on Grover, who is also Rohtak MLA, occupying a portion of a municipal corporation building to set up his private office. However, the minister hit back at the Congress MLAs, saying they had a history of carrying out encroachments and that’s what they had done for 10 years. “I have not encroached on any building. I had an office close to this place and the furniture got spoiled during the quota agitation. And I sat in that building for only one day,” he claimed.
