AMRITSAR: Two unidentified people looted gold ornaments worth around `70 lakh from a goldsmith at gunpoint at the Maha Singh Gate near the bus stand here on Wednesday.

The victim has been identified as Kulbir Singh, a resident of the Kot Mit Singh locality, who was going to the railway station to board Shatabdi Express as he wanted to go to Jharkhand to sell the costly ornaments.

When he reached Maha Singh Gate, two bike-riders suddenly came before him and pointed a pistol at him and asked him to hand over the bag containing the ornaments. After snatching the bag, they fled from the site, said police sources, referring to the complaint lodged at the Kotwali police station. The police have registered a case.
