Bill to lift ban on poppy husk cleared for tabling in Parliament

-

CHANDIGARH: The Parliament’s legislative branch has cleared a private member’s NDPS Act amendment bill for lifting the ban on the traditional non-chemical natural intoxicants such as poppy husk, which will be tabled in the winter session of the Parliament.

Informing this, AAP MP Dr Dharamveera Gandhi said this was his second bill to be accepted for being tabled in the Parliament, the first being the ‘Sikh Marriage Act-2016’.

“The reason for bringing up this amendment is that the NDPS Act has brought about contrary results in 30 years,” he said.

He reiterated that the NDPS Act has not only failed in achieving its professed goals, but this “war on drugs” has delivered results opposite to what it aimed to achieve.
