India coach Anil Kumble has fond memories of Ferozeshah Kotla. It was here that the leg spinner took only Test history’s second 10-wicket innings haul, to seal a 1999 series-levelling win over Pakistan. Nine years later, he chose the venue to announce his Test retirement. Addressing the news conference on Thursday, Kumble thus knew the first question could be on the pitch, and was ready. “I don’t think there is anything that I need to look at the Kotla pitch,” he smiled.
