CHANDIGARH : The postal ballot papers returned undelivered can be reissued on the request of the elector concerned, according to Punjab chief electoral officer (CEO) VK Singh. The process needs to be completed a day before the counting day on March 11.

The election commission (EC) has issued instructions to all the returning officers (ROs) in the state with regard to the undelivered postal ballots during the recent assembly elections.

The Punjab CEO said the postal ballot papers returned undelivered can be reissued on the request of the elector concerned. He said if the postal ballot and other related documents sent by post are returned to the RO undelivered then the RO may reissue them by post or may deliver it to the elector personally on a request from the elector.

He said in cases of no request for the reissue of the undelivered postal ballot, the RO has been instructed to keep them separately in an envelope.

The RO has also been asked to maintain a day-to-day record of the undelivered postal ballots. The CEO said on the day of counting, the candidates will be intimated about the number of such postal ballots, a press release said.
