FIR LODGED AGAINST UP BJP CHIEF FOR SPORTING PARTY SYMBOL ON POLLING DAY
ALLAHABAD BJP’s Uttar Pradesh president Keshav Prasad Maurya landed in trouble after an FIR was lodged against him on Saturday for violating model code of conduct on polling day in Allahabad. Maurya had triggered a controversy when he arrived at the polling centre wearing a jacket flashing ‘lotus’ (BJP’s election symbol), on February 23. He, however, took off the party’s symbol after the poll officials at the centre objected to it. Some of Maurya’s selfies and photographs went viral on social networking sites. Talking to HT, Maurya said, “I accept my fault but the act was unintentional. I will accept any punishment that the Election Commission deems fit.”
