CHANDIGARH : A day ahead of the ‘Black day’ to be observed by the All India Jat Aarakshan Sangharsh Samiti (AIJASS) as part of its ongoing agitation, the Haryana government on Saturday ordered tight security arrangements to maintain law and order in the state.

The AIJASS had given the call to protest against the state government for not accepting its demands, including reservation and withdrawal of cases against Jat protesters in connection with the last year’s quota agitation. The protesters would wear black turbans or scarves to mark their protest.

The government asked all deputy commissioners (DCs) and superintendents of police (SPs) to deploy adequate police force at vulnerable points to ensure that normal life was not disrupted and all essential services continue uninterrupted in the state.

Addressing DCs, commissioners of police and SPs through video-conferencing here, additional chief secretary, home, Ram Niwas asked them to deploy duty magistrates at all places and make arrangements for videography of all protest sites to ensure that peace was not disturbed. He said planning had been done to divert traffic wherever required and adequate paramilitary forces were available in the state.

Cautioning that any attempt to disturb the law and order situation in the state would not be tolerated, Ram Niwas also directed the SPs to resolve the grievances raised by the agitators. He also urged the Jat leaders to meet the SPs concerned along with evidence, if any.

Action would be taken against those found guilty, irrespective of caste. Investigation in such cases would be carried out within 24 hours.

A four-member state-level committee comprising ADGP (law and order), additional advocate general and two representatives of the agitators had been constituted for redressal of grievances, he said. INTERNET BANNED IN SONEPAT With a view to maintain law and order situation in Sonepat, district magistrate K Makarand Pandurang on Saturday issued orders to impose ban on all internet services under Section 144 of the criminal procedure code (CrPC) for 24 hours till 5 pm on Monday in the wake the AIJASS’ call to observe ‘black day’ on Sunday.

He said the ban had been imposed to prevent people from misusing these services to spread rumours. Hesaidall-telecom service providers had been directed to strictly abide by these orders.
