Maur residents protest for more relief to blast victims
Residents of Maur, along with members of the victim families of the twin bomb blasts, staged a protest here on Sunday against the police failure to crack the case, and demanded more compensation to the affected families.
The protesters under the banner of Maur Bomb Blast Sangharsh Committee took out a protest march and gathered at the blast site. Secretary of the committee Naveen Singla said people want police to crack the case and nab the culprits at the earliest. Besides this, the committee has demanded a compensation of ₹1 crore each to the families of all six people killed in the incident, besides government job to at least one member of family. They also sought ₹10-lakh each to the injured, list affected families as terrorism-hit, better facilities at the Maur Civil Hospital and a memorial dedicated to those killed. The residents had held a similar protest on February 17 as well and submitted a memorandum to administration.
Singla said a meeting of the committee has been scheduled for Tuesday to chalk out a plan for future course of action. They said as many as 28 people were injured in the blasts, but administration has listed only 13 for compensation.
The administration on Saturday disbursed compensation of ₹36.5 lakh to the affected families, of which ₹5lakh each was given to families of those killed and ₹50, 000 each to the injured.
Six people, including four children, were killed the blasts on January 31, shortly after a rally of Congress candidate from Maur assembly segment Harminder Singh Jassi. The police have questioned several people in this connection, but there has been no headway yet.
