28yearold woman raped in Faridkot, 2 booked

FARIDKOT: Two unidentifi­ed men have been booked for raping a 28-year-old married woman here on Tuesday morning.

The victim, who is admitted to Guru Gobind Singh medical college and hospital, said that she works as a domestic help and, on Tuesday, around 10 am, she left her home for work. She said, when she reached near the Mori gate, two unidentifi­ed occupants of a motorcycle stopped near her.

She said, “The pillion-rider stepped down and shut my mouth with his hand and made me sit on the bike forcefully. They then took me to a room in the sugar mill near the railway line and raped me there. After the crime, the accused fled the spot threatenin­g her of dire consequenc­es in case I revealed the incident to anyone.”

The victim then reached the police station. She was rushed to the hospital where her medical report confirmed rape on her. The victim was admitted in the gynaecolog­y ward, according to the police.

"A case has been registered and we are hopeful of the arrest of the accused soon," said a senior police officer.

The victim was married in 1998 and has been living with her parents since 2012 as she is contesting a divorce case in a local court.

A case under Sections 376 (rape) and 506 (punishment for criminal intimidati­on) of Indian Penal Code was registered at the police station (city), Faridkot. The police have not added the kidnapping section in the First Informatio­n Report though she alleged that she was forcefully made to sit on the bike.
