YAMUNANAGAR: The Yamunanagar police on Monday claimed to have busted a fake currency racket with the arrest of the mastermind.

The accused, identified as Ruby Singh, alias Ravi, is a resident of Bhambholi village in the district. Yamunanagar superintendent of police (SP) Rajesh Kalia said Ravi was running the racket along with Ramesh Kumar of Bal Chappar and Ashok Kumar of Chahadwala village in the district. Teams have been formed to trace and arrest the duo, he said.

Kalia said the detective staff of the district police got a tip-off that the accused were printing fake currency and supplying it to parts of Haryana, Punjab and Uttarakhand.

A police team, led by assistant sub-inspector Jai Pal Singh, apprehended Ravi, and recovered fake notes of ₹100, worth ₹25,100, from his possession. All notes had the same serial number, said the SP.

During interrogation, Ravi told the police that they used to print the fake notes at a computer centre in Bilaspur using a computer, scanner and printer. During the raid at the computer centre, cops recovered fake currency worth ₹42,450. The accused admitted that the gang had pushed fake currency worth ₹2 lakh into the market in the past few months, said the SP.

Police have booked Ravi under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and will produce him in court to seek his remand.
