Apropos the news-report, ‘Fire in fields: Farmers blame sagging power lines, dismiss meagre relief’, (HT, April 24), it is common knowledge that farmers pay a rental of ₹35,000 to ₹40,000 per acre. The compensati­on of ₹8,000 worked out by PSPCL is a poor joke. Navjot Sidhu, the local body minister, has shown rare magnanimit­y by offering to pay ₹24 lakh from his own pocket. The CM should also take steps to ensure that the farmers are compensate­d fairly. Capt Amar Jeet Kumar, SAS Nagar
