HIKE THE COMPENSATION

Apropos the news-report, ‘Fire in fields: Farmers blame sagging power lines, dismiss meagre relief’, (HT, April 24), it is common knowledge that farmers pay a rental of ₹35,000 to ₹40,000 per acre. The compensation of ₹8,000 worked out by PSPCL is a poor joke. Navjot Sidhu, the local body minister, has shown rare magnanimity by offering to pay ₹24 lakh from his own pocket.
