20% PAY HIKE FOR HARYANA MINISTERS
Ministers’ office allowance increased from ₹2,000 to ₹20,000
Haryana assembly on Thursday unanimously passed a bill giving a hike of 900% in the office allowance and 20% hike in the salaries of speaker, deputy speaker, leader of opposition and ministers.
The MLAs of ruling BJP as well as opposition INLD and Congress unanimously passed the Haryana salaries and allowances of ministers (amendment) bill, 2017.
The Act would be deemed to have come into force with effect from April 1, 2016.
As per the amendment, the salaries of the ministers have been increased from ₹50,000 to ₹60,000 per month and the office allowance from ₹2,000 to ₹20,000 per month.
Under the Haryana legislative assembly (salary, allowances and pension of members) amendment Bill, 2017, which was also passed unanimously, the salary of leader of the opposition was also increased from ₹50,000 to ₹60,000 per month.
The Haryana legislative assembly speaker’s and deputy speaker’s salaries and allowances (amendment) Bill, 2017 was passed to further amend the Haryana legislative assembly speaker’s and deputy speaker’s salaries and allowances Act, 1975. The Act would be deemed to have come into force with effect from April 1, 2016.
As per the amendment, the salaries of the speaker and deputy speaker had been increased from ₹50,000 to ₹60,000 per month and the Office Allowances from ₹2,000 to ₹20,000 per month.
The increase in the salary and office allowance of ministers would entail an extra expenditure of about ₹47 lakh per year and increase in the salary and office allowance of speaker, deputy speaker and leader of opposition would entail an extra expenditure of about ₹6.7 lakh per year.
