Throwing directions of the apex court to the wind, the city police have turned a blind eye towards the complaint of minor girl Saraswati, 9, who is missing since May 20. The cops have failed to even register a first information report (FIR) under kidnapping charges.

Her mother Parvati Devi, 32, of Focal Point, originally from Nepal’s Mohindra Nagar district, has been visiting police station-8 for last 11 days even after she had lodged a missing complaint of her daughter on May 20.

The Supreme Court has served clear instructions for the police to register FIRs of kidnapping in all those cases where a minor child is involved. Further, every case of a minor having gone missing be treated as a case of kidnapping.

“I have been making rounds of Police Station -8 and Focal Point police post since my daughter went missing but the cops are doing nothing,” Devi told HT.

“As the cops failed to move on my complaint, I, along with my brother went for a lookout on our own to Amritsar, Ludhiana and scanned the area around Golden Temple, bus stand, railways station and markets, but to no avail,” she added. She further said her husband is bedridden due to a spinal cord injury.

“I work as a maid in four houses and earn around ₹2,500 per month,” she said. Notably, Devi lives in a ₹2,000 per month rented accommodation and hasn’t gone to work since her child went missing.

On Wednesday, Devi was sitting outside the police station waiting for the SHO.

HT called SHO police station-8 Nirmal Singh many times but he did not respond. When quizzed, ACP north Navneet Singh Mahal said he has asked the concerned officer to register an FIR immediately in the case.

THE SC HAS CLEARLY STATED TO REGISTER FIR OF KIDNAPPING IN ALL CASES WHERE A MINOR CHILD IS INVOLVED
