The mother of a young techie committed suicide at her home in Punjab on Saturday, two days after her son shot himself dead over alleged terror links, police said on Saturday. The woman, Kiranjot Kaur, 58, was found hanging from a ceiling fan early on Saturday. She lived in Patiala, 75 km from here.

Two days after terror suspect Rajatvir Singh Sodhi shot himself dead ahead of a police raid at his house in Patiala, his mother also committed suicide, police said on Saturday. They said Kiranjit Kaur, 58, whose 24-year-old son was accused of making bombs, hanged herself from a ceiling fan on Friday night.

The police recovered her body hanging in one of the rooms at their house in Darshan Nagar locality. Superintendent of police (investigation) Harvinder Singh Virk, who is heading the investigating team, said Kiranjit’s relatives told police that she hanged herself after 11:45pm on Friday. She had returned from Kiratpur Sahib in the evening after immersing her son’s ashes.

Kiranjit’s death may hit the investigations as she was one of the main sources for the police to gather crucial information about his deceased son, a computer engineer.

During the past two days, the police had questioned Kiranjit over her alleged ignorance about her son and husband’s activities. Kiranjit’s husband Harpreet Singh, who is on police remand for five days, was allowed to perform her last rites. POLICE TRACING RAJATVIR’S LINKS Meanwhile, residents of Faloli village, where Rajatvir and his father allegedly experimented the bombs, told the police that Rajatvir once brought four other persons to the village in his sports utility vehicle (SUV) Scorpio.

A senior police official said during the interrogation of Rajatvir’s father, the police are trying to track down his associates who were regular visitors to their house and had direct access to his room.

Earlier, Rajatvir’s mother had told police that he did not even allow them to enter his room.

Asked if the techie was linked with a terror group, SP Virk said, “During three days of investigations and interrogation of Rajatvir’s father, no terror link has been established so far, but it can’t be ruled out at this stage.”

Meanwhile, it has been found that the potassium, sulphur, ethanol and other chemicals recovered from Rajatvir’s house were purchased from the local market.
