The Jalandhar police on Saturday sent traffic police inspector Pinderjeet Singh Riar to police lines for allegedly demanding ₹2,000 as bribe from a businessman to pay the internet bill of his office.

In an audio clip, the traffic cop is heard asking the complainant, Manjeet, who supplies construction material, to shell out ₹2,000 for the internet bill.

The complainant can be heard saying that he had already provided a sand tipper worth ₹10,000 on the instructions of a superintendent of police when the construction work began near the Punjab Armed Police (PAP) Chowk, and he cannot pay more.

To this, the traffic cop says: “I will not ask for the money next time. But please pay the internet bill. We will not stop your vehicles for next two months.” 6-MONTH-OLD INCIDENT Following the incident, which took place around six months ago, Jalandhar police commissioner PK Sinha marked an inquiry to deputy superintendent of police (DSP traffic) Harwinder Singh Bhalla.

“The probe found Riar guilty of demanding the bribe. The department gets money from the government to pay internet bill,” said Bhalla.

“Riar has been removed from the traffic wing of the police and has been sent to police lines. A departmental probe has also been ordered against him,” the police commissioner said.
