Students of Faridabad’s Mujeri government school continued their hunger strike on Saturday even as the condition of three girls students deteriorated. The girls were shifted to BK Hospital, where they are undergoing treatment.

The students have been protesting for nine days, demanding upgrade of their school up to Class-12 level.

“Our protest will continue till our demand is

fulfilled. It is very difficult study in far off schools,” said Bharati, a Class-10 student.

“We are on hunger strike and will continue to fight for our rights,” said Komal, a Class-8 student of this school.”

Mujeri falls under Prithla assembly segment. Local MLA Tek Chand Sharma and senior officers of education department had visited the dharna site on Friday to pursuade students to call of their strike but they did not relent.

“The combined strength of Classes 6,7 and 8 of this school is only 92. For upgrade, the school must have a minum of 210 students,” said Manoj Kaushik, district education officer, Faridabad.

“Despite this, we have recommended the state government to upgrade this school giving the reason that 243 students from this village study in other schools outside the village,” she said. “We have recommended the upgrade of 13 other schools,” she added.

After a hunger strike by students of Gothra Tappa Dahina in Rewari forced the state government to announce upgrade of their school, students of government high school of Selothi village in Palwal district had locked their school on hunger strike a few days ago.
