MOMENTS OF THE MATCH
KOHLI’S DUCK
After another solid opening partnership of 138, it was all set for the Indian skipper to play another brilliant knock following his unbeaten 81 against Pakistan. However, Kohli edged one from Nuwan Pradeep outside off-stump to wicketkeeper Niroshan Dickwella. Out for a duck as India were two down suddenly.
DHAWAN STEPS UP
When the twin strikes happened, Shikhar Dhawan was on 52 that he had compiled very quietly. However, he counterattacked, ensuring the pressure never fell on India. The left-hander hammered five boundaries in the next three overs to keep India rolling. From being 52 off 77, he moved to 77 off 84. With Dhoni looking in good touch, he worked his way to a hundred.
JADHAV TO PARTY
After MS Dhoni made a brilliant fifty that ensured India crossed 300, Kedar Jadhav proved handy with the bat. With India at 307 when Dhoni was out in the last over, the right-handed batsman made use of the remaining four balls plundering 14 runs off them. Jadhav remained unbeaten on 25 in 13 balls and hit a six and two fours in the last over.
CAUGHT SHORT
Sri Lanka were off to a strong start. However, a smart move by Virat Kohli to bring himself and Kedar Jadhav on slowed the pace of scoring. The Sri Lankans found the going tough as they couldn’t get the big hits. The pressure showed as two of their set batsmen were run out.
ASELA ON THE MONEY
Kusal Perera and Angelo Mathews ensured SL stayed on course. However, Perera pulled a hamstring with the team requiring 51 runs in seven overs. However, Asela Gunaratne hammered two brilliant sixes, including a slow sweep against Jasprit Bumrah to shut India out.
