28 INJURED IN SUNAM CRACKER GODOWN BLAST
At least 28 people were injured after an explosion in a crackers godown located in the residential area in Sunam on the Nelowal road on Monday. The exact reason behind the explosion that took place at 4.15pm could not be ascertained but the intensity of the blast was high as the roof of the godown caved in and four nearby houses also suffered damage. Earthmoving machine was pressed into service to rescue injured.
SUNAM(SANGRUR): At least 28 people were injured after an explosion in a crackers godown located in the residential area in Sunam on the Nelowal road on Monday.
The exact reason behind the explosion that took place at 4.15pm could not be ascertained but the intensity of the blast was high as the roof of the godown caved in and four nearby houses also suffered damage. Earthmoving machine was pressed into service to rescue injured from the rubble.
The injured were rushed to Sunam civil hospital from where four were referred to Government Rajindra Hospital, Patiala. A 20-year-old man, Badhru, was missing, said the police.
The crackers store came up in the area 10 years ago. The owner of the godown, Raj Kumar Nagapl, is contesting a case in the Haryana high court, police officials said.
“It explosion took place in a godown which is already under question. It affected the neighbouring buildings. The most of the injured persons are residents who have been living near the godown. Police are investigating the case” said senior superintendent of police Mandeep Singh Sidhu.
