I was not here at that time. But the staff told me that police came in search of some person. So I took up the matter with the police commissioner. Police coming with Akali workers and councillors is objectionable. Police must work independently. BAWA SINGH SANDHU , OSD at camp office

AMRITSAR: Police commissioner SS Srivastava transferred two police inspectors posted in the city to Police Lines after the duo raided a complex of the chief minister’s camp office in search of a suspect.

The transferred officers are CIA inspector Arwinder Singh and Gate Hakima Police Station SHO inspector Harinder Singh. Though it is learnt that the police team went there on the instructions of a senior police officer in the city, they alone had to pay for the action.

Srivastava, who has also marked a probe in this regard, said facts are being verified and they will find out the officer on whose instruction, the two went there.

The incident took place on Wednesday evening when the two inspectors, with other cops, raided the premises where the chief minister’s camp office is present.

As the cops went there in big number and searched the rooms of adjoining PWD rest house, this did not go down well with OSD (officer on special duty) Bawa Singh Sandhu and other Congressmen.

The Congressmen also objected to the police being accompanied by a few Akali workers and some councillors.

It is learnt that the police had come there after an input that some suspect in a theft case was present there. However, the suspect was not found in the camp office.

Miffed over this, Sandhu took up the matter with the police commissioner who further initiated the action.

Srivastava said, “The police spotted car of the suspect going inside the premises and chased it. But as the suspect was not found there, the cops returned.”

However, since there were some complaints about the raid, a probe was ordered and both the inspectors were transferred to police lines, he added.

It is learnt that the family members of the suspect had gone to the CM’s camp office to demand justice.

Sandhu said, “I was not here at that time. But the staff told me that police came in search of some person. So I took up the matter with the police commissioner. Police coming with Akali workers and councillors is objectionable. Police must work independently.”

People come here with their grievances and if police had some suspicion, they should inform properly rather than raiding the complex in such a manner, he added.

Meanwhile, local MLA Dr Raj Kumar Verka and Amritsar MP Gurjit Aujla said it is time to expose the police officers who are working on the directions of Akalis.

There is no issue if a person comes to CM’s camp office for justice. If he is involved in a case, the police must inform the office rather bringing along Akalis, they added.
