Truce violation: Indian posts, villages in Nowshera targeted
Two Pak soldiers were reportedly killed in India’s retaliatory fire
JAMMU: Pakistan has violated the ceasefire in Rajouri and Poonch districts thrice in the past 24-hours.
In the latest violation, the hostile neighbour targeted at least a dozen Indian posts and six forward villages in the Nowshera sector of Rajouri district.
Defence spokesman Lt Col Manish Mehta said that Pakistani army initiated indiscriminate firing of small arms, heavy automatics and mortars along the Line of Control (LoC) from 2pm on Wednesday.
“The Indian army posts is retaliating strongly. And the firing is still on,” he added.
An intelligence official said that there was heavy shelling by Pakistan army in Baba Khori, Ghania and Kalsian area of Nowshera sub-division.
Meanwhile, wire reports claim that two Pakistani soldiers were killed in a fresh cross border firing between India and Pakistan along the Line of Control in two sectors of Rajouri and Poonch on Thursday.
However, a senior army officer said that such report cannot be confirmed.
On Wednesday, Pakistan army initiated indiscriminate firing of mortars, small arms, automatics RPG, recoilless rifles from 6.40pm in the Nowshera sector.
Before this, they had initiated indiscriminate firing of small arms, automatics RPG, recoilless rifles from 9.30am on Thursday in the same sector.
Meanwhile, Pakistan’s ‘The Dawn’ newspaper reported that early on Monday, two Pakistani teenagers were killed and three others were injured in Pakistanoccupied Kashmir (PoK) when Indian troops resorted to “unprovoked” shelling with heavy weapons from across the LoC.
It stated that the casualties occurred in Tatta Pani sector of the southern Kotli district, where shelling began after 5.45am.
The Pakistan army’s media affairs wing, Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), also confirmed the casualties.
Since May 1 this year, when Pakistan’s BAT killed and mutilated two Indian soldiers — junior commanding officer (JCO) Paramjit Singh and Border Security Force (BSF) head constable Prem Sagar in a transLine of Control raid in KG sector of Poonch, there has been a spike in the ceasefire violations by Pakistan on the de-facto border.
Pakistan has been showing “scant regards” to the mutually brokered ceasefire agreement of November 2003, between the two nuke rivals.
