SECOND TIME THIS MONTH INTELLIGENCE AGENCIES HAVE ASKED SECURITY FORCES TO REMAIN PREPARED FOR THREAT IN TWIN TOWNS

Security agencies in Punjab have been warned again of a terror attack in the twin border towns of Pathankot and Gurdaspur by intelligence agencies, who believe four terrorists have crossed the border from Pakistan in the Bamial sector.

Sensing the gravity, the Border Security Force (BSF) has parked an additional battalion in Pathankot district, whereas security by the army and air force have been enhanced too, it is learnt. Pathankot senior superintendent of police (SSP) Vivek Sheel Soni confirmed the input and said his force is ready to deal with any threat. Gurdaspur SSP BS Virk said bulletproof tractors and other equipment are being deployed near the border “to thwart any dare of the enemy”.

This is the second time this month that intelligence agencies have asked security forces to remain prepared for a threat in these towns that have seen two terror attacks, including one on the airbase in Pathankot in which terrorists killed seven personnel before being gunned down.

In neighbouring Jammu and Kashmir, on 23 May, the inspector general (Jammu zone) had issued an internal communique to SSPs in Jammu, Kathua and Samba, mentioning a threat after agencies purportedly spotted footprints of intruders in the Hira Nagar sector.
