Rape survivor’s complaint against cop ‘fake’
Two days after an alleged gang rape survivor accused the investigating officer (IO) of her case of mouthing obscenities on phone to pressurise her, police found her complaint false.
Superintendent of police, Rampur Vipin Tada told a press conference that the woman and one Md Rafiq Ali, 45, planned the call. “The woman was not happy with the final report submitted by the IO in her gang rape case so she planned the phone call with Ali and accused the IO to malign his image, apparently to gain public sympathy,” the SP said.
Police have also recovered the cell phones used in the crime.
Ali was arrested from his house on Wednesday. Police have charged Ali and the woman under Sections 420 (cheating), 120 B(criminal conspiracy) 193 (presenting false evidence) 192 (fabricating false evidence) 469 (forgery for the purpose of harming reputation) and 470 (creating forged electronic record) of Indian Penal code. Both the accused were sent to prison in Judicial custody.
Earlier, the woman had presented a CD to the police, saying it contained recordings of the conversation between her and the IO in which the latter made obscene comments and asked for favours.
“Sub inspector Jai Prakash Singh, the IO of my case, tried to pressurise me by mouthing obscenities on phone,” read the complaint lodged on Monday.
Investigation revealed that the male voice in the recorded conversation was not of the IO. This was also corroborated by the call detail records (CDR) of the woman and IO’s phone numbers. Cops also sent the CD for voice sample analysis.
The woman, 37, was allegedly gang raped by two men on the night of February 12.
