The Sonepat police on Friday submitted a 400-page challan against three accused in the case pertaining to the brutal gangrape and murder of a 20-year-old girl in Rohtak by her jilted lover and his friend.

Sonepat SP Ashwin Shenvi said they have made a “strong” challan backed by scientific proof from DNA tests against the accused in order to seek maximum punishment from the court.

The 20-year-old victim was allegedly abducted and taken to Rohtak on May 9, where two men gangraped her and later smashed bricks on her head to kill her. The body of the victim was found rotting at a secluded place two days later when stray dogs were seen fighting over it.

Based on the family’s suspicion, police managed to make immediate arrests of the two accused — Sumit and Vikas— under charges of rape and murder.

The police further arrested another man a few days days later on charges of destroying evidence.

“We have gathered strong evidence against the accused through DNA tests. Blood sample of the victim sent for testing has matched the samples found on clothes of the accused. Rape charges have also been confirmed,” SP Shenvi said.
