₹11-lakh robbery: Jalandhar police arrest one, four on the run

The city police arrested a 20-year-old youth on Friday for his involvemen­t in the ₹11 lakh robbery on Thursday in which, five robbers looted a bag containing the money from a cash executive in Barring village on GT road when he coming to the city on a bike.

The arrested accused was identified as Sagar of Nangal Karar Khan and has been taken to two-day police remand.

Addressing a press conference, assistant commission­er of police (ACP) (central) Satinder Kumar said two more accused have been identified as Shivam, 22, of Basan Wali Gali and Jasvir Singh, 20, of East Avenue in Rama Mandi locality.

Two others are yet to be identified.

On Thursday late night, police laid a trap near Paragpur from where, Sagar, Shivam and Jasvir passed on the bike. Seeing the cops, they tried to flee and the officers managed to apprehend Sagar while the rest fled.

Kumar said the accused were following victim Karandeep Singh of Abadpura for past few weeks as he collected cash from a KFC restaurant on GT road and hatched a conspiracy to loot him.

The ACP revealed that on Thursday, as Karandeep was coming towards the city with the money, the accused cornered him near Barring village with covered faces. They allegedly snatched the money on gunpoint.

Kumar said after getting informatio­n, senior cops reached the spot and started probe and nakas were laid at various places.

A case has been registered against them at Rama Mandi police station.
