Lynching accused’s show of strength at surrender

BATHINDA : One of the accused in June 8 lynching of a suspected drug peddler near Talwandi Sabo surrendere­d before police on Saturday.

Amrinder Singh Raju, son of sarpanch of Bhagi Wander village Charanjit Kaur, surrendere­d before Talwandi Sabo deputy superinten­dent of police (DSP) Barinder Singh, but not before putting up a show of strength.

Raju, who was in an open jeep, was accompanie­d by his supporters who had come on motorbikes and tractor trailers.

Vinod Kumar alias Monu Arora was lynched at Bhagi Wander village on suspicion of supplying drugs. He died during treatment at Gur Gobind Singh Medical College and Hospital in Faridkot. Monu faced five cases, including two for supplying drugs and one each for rape, theft and smuggling of liquor. Police have booked 13 persons, including Raju, his mother Charanjit Kaur, his brother Pinder Singh on murder charges under section 302 of IPC. After the victim’s bhog, his family blocked road demanding arrest of accused.

DSP Barinder said all other accused in the case will be arrested soon.
