Diarrhoea outbreak in Phillaur: MP orders inquiry
Member of Parliament (MP) Chaudhary Santokh Singh ordered a magisterial inquiry into the diarrhoea outbreak, affecting more than 200 people, on Monday. Chaudhary accompanied by municipal council officials visited civil hospital Phillaur and other adjoining wards.
“There has been a diarrhoea outbreak in Ward 9 and 10 of municipal council Phillaur,”said the MP.
“If the situation is not dealt timely and properly it could attain a horrible state. Needless to say, the scenario points towards carelessness of the concerned departments,” Santokh Singh said.
“So far one casualty has been reported due to the disease. As many as 11 people suffering from colitis and diarrhea have been admitted to the civil hospital,” he added.
Expressing concern on the outbreak, the MP said that poor sanitation and water supply is the root cause of menace. Chaudhary ordered a magisterial inquiry to be conducted by the officer not below the rank of the sub-divisional magistrate(SDM).
He further ordered the officials to visit tube well spots and conduct inspection of water supply lines and ensure proper chlorination.
Chaudhary also asked the health department to ensure 24 hours medical relief facility and conduct door-to-door survey, creating awareness and distributing first-aid kits.
