EDUCATION OF THE DISABLED
The editorial, ‘Why the disabled are dropping out of schools (HT, June 29)’ raises an important issue of education of the disabled. The government and society must take the problem seriously. Government policies about the education of ‘divyang’ are unfortunate. They show its callousness and indifference. ‘Divyang’ should be admitted to common schools, mainly on ground of sociability. The provision of special teachers and infrastructure should be made. Disabled children are a valuable property of society and equipped with special talent that needs to be harnessed.
