COUNTERING CHINA

-

This refers to the article, ‘India is on its own against China (HT, June 29)’. China considers India an obstacle to its ambitious plan of dominating the region and uses various tactics to subdue or make us fall in line now and then, but with little success. To stop it from needling with provocative actions like resorting to incursions into our territory, opposing our stand on issues at the international fora, objecting to our activities in Arunachal Pradesh, our policy of reducing imports from it may prove counterproductive. In this situation, we are left with only one option of upgrading our nuclear and missile deterrent responses. It may be an expensive alternative, but when the sovereignty and integrity of the country is at stake, cost does not matter.
