GURDASPUR The IK Gujral Punjab Technical University (PTU) has decided to shut down its regional campus at Dodwan village in Dinanagar, Gurdaspur district, from the 2017-18 session. The campus had been providing education in BTech-CSE, BTech CSE (lateral entry) and BCA courses.

Around 25 panchayats of the area have appealed to the university authorities to revoke the said decision in the interest of promoting education among women.

Meanwhile around 100 girl students of the area have written to the university authorities to let the Dinanagar campus continue.

The students claimed that Class 12 (arts) pass students had a chance to do BCA at Dinanagar campus and it is not available at Beant College of Engineering and Technology in Gurdaspur or any other regional campus of the university. They argue that BTech courses will now be a far away dream for the students here.

Students belonging to backward classes used to receive free education and stipend during their student career here. They say that if the campus is shut down, their parents cannot afford to send them to other places for these coursesas they charge high fee.

Meanwhile, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader from Dinanagar, Joginder Singh Chhina, has decided to take up the matter with the university authorities and secretary education.

He warned that if the said decision is not revoked, his party will launch a stir in the area. He alleged that the campus is being closed due to a conspiracy to favour private colleges of the area that are being run by influencial people.

Confirming the closure of this campus, PTU’s public relations officer (PRO) Rajnish Kumar said that the campus had been closed down due to insufficient infrastructure for the courses it offered.
