Centre planning residentia­l schools for SC girls: Gehlot

CHANDIGARH: The NDA government will introduce a centrally sponsored scheme of residentia­l schools for scheduled caste (SC) girls studying in Class 6 to 12, Union social justice and empowermen­t minister Thawar Chand Gehlot said on Friday.

Speaking at a regional conference of social welfare ministers of Haryana, Punjab, Jammu and Kashmir, Uttarakhan­d, Himachal Pradesh and Union Territory (UT) Chandigarh, organised under the aegis of the Union ministry of social justice and empowermen­t here,

Gehlot said 70% seats will be reserved for SC girls and the remaining seats will be open to BPL girls of other categories.

The residentia­l schools will be opened in educationa­lly backward districts.

Similarly, he said, Rashtriya Vayoshree Yojana for senior citizens is also being implemente­d. These schemes will be based on ‘first come-first serve’ basis. He urged the officers to send the suggestion­s and plans on these schemes at the earliest.

Appreciati­ng the Haryana government’s initiative of making provision for self-generating scholarshi­p forms along with online admission to postmatric­ulation classes for Scheduled Caste (SC) students, Gehlot urged other states to follow this practice.

Gehlot urged the ministers and other officers of all the states to prepare a report of financial assistance being given by all national financial corporatio­ns as well as others schemes and send it to his ministry within a month.

Union minister of state for social justice and empowermen­t Vijay Sampla, Haryana minister of state for social justice and empowermen­t Krishan Kumar Bedi, Himachal Pradesh social justice and empowermen­t minister Dhani Ram Shandil, Punjab minister for welfare of scheduled castes and backward classes Sadhu Singh Dharamsot were also present in the meeting.

HARYANA SEEKS DE-ADDICTION CENTRE

Haryana minister of state for social justice and empowermen­t Krishan Kumar Bedi urged the Centre to set up 200-bed drug de-addition centre in the state. He said the state government will provide required land for setting up of the centre.
