BRO chief inspects strategic Ladakh roads

SRINAGAR: Director general of Border Roads Organisati­on (BRO) Lt General SK Shrivastav­a is on a visit to Ladakh area of Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) for inspecting the strategic roads in the backdrop of India-China standoff in Sikkim region.

“As the diplomatic relations between India and China have flared up over Doklam in Sikkim, director general of BRO visited Ladakh to inspect the strategic roads in the region,” a statement issued by BRO said.

Shrivastav­a is on visit to Ladakh to take stock of constructi­on activities of the strategic road network maintained and constructe­d by the Project Himank, the statement read.

The director general arrived in Ladakh on July 18 and undertook a detailed inspection of seven operationa­lly, strategica­lly and administra­tively critical roads spanning a length of approximat­ely 650 km in Eastern Ladakh region, it said.

The visit of the director general to the cold desert assumes significan­ce at a time when relations between China and India are strained over the troop movement in Doklam area in Sikkim.

“Ladakh is the most strategic region for India as it borders the country with China,” the statement read.

Shrivastav­a interacted with chief executive councillor, Leh Autonomous Hill Developmen­t Council, and general officer commanding 14 Corps to discuss issues involved with developmen­t of road communicat­ion network required for meeting the developmen­t of the region.
