Tag pets, fine owners for letting them loose on roads, orders CM
ROHTAK: Haryana chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar on Saturday ordered the animal husbandry department to start tagging of pets and impose fine on their owners for abandoning these animals.
The chief minister also reiterated that the state will be made stray cattle-free by August 15. He assured the residents after receiving complaints of increasing number of stray cattle in villages.
Khattar was listening to the grievances at a ‘janata darbar’. He also ordered closure of meat and liquor shops near temples when some people from the Meham sub-division complained about the ‘problem’ in their area.
The chief minister ordered the local sub-divisional magistrate (SDM) to immediately shut the shops, and asked the authorities to ensure no new meat or liquor shop are opened anywhere near temples.
A government press release issued on Saturday did not specify as under which provision the shops will be closed. Nor did it say whether the shops in Meham are being run in violation of norms.
The state has already cracked the whip on illegal meat shops and slaughterhouses recently, on the lines of newly elected Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government in Uttar Pradesh led by Yogi Adityanath.
The chief minister also asked the power utilities in the state to promptly give new electricity connections to consumers as “chances of people resorting to power theft increase if they are not issued connections on their request”.
On his achievements in the last 1,000 days of his government in Haryana, Khattar said he has successfully filled the “pits left by the previous Congress government”.
“The previous government had left various development works incomplete. The state government has undertaken 1,000 works during its tenure of 1,000 days, which itself is a record,” he said.
The CM said his party always remains in election mode. “It is due to the BJP’s spirit to be in election mode that it won Presidential election.”
