GURGAON: A gang of robbers from Delhi that allegedly targeted commuters on Iffco Chowk and MG Road after offering them a lift has been busted, police said. Police arrested one of its alleged members from Sanjay Colony near Bhati Mines in Delhi. Police said the gang has four to five members, all hailing from Delhi.

The man arrested on Wednesday, Padam alias Rahul, allegedly told the police that the gang targeted commuters looking for lifts at the busy Iffco Chowk and MG Road areas, offering them seats in their vehicle. “Two to three gang members in the car took commuters to an isolated place and robbed them of valuables, phone and cash. Anyone who resisted was beaten up,” said Deepak Saharan, DCP, east.

Police said they used different vehicles to commit the crimes, sometimes borrowing or hiring them. The police have been able to identify seven to eight incidents carried out by this gang.

“All of them are from Delhi and have several cases registered against them,” ACP, crime, Ranbir Singh said said.

In another incident, the antisnatching cell of the Gurgaon police arrested two UP men who were allegedly involved in over 30 cases of theft, snatching, robbery and vehicle lifting. The two used to move houses frequently and have already spent time in jail.

A police team arrested Jai Solanki alias Ganja, from Kanshi Ram Nagar, and his associate Gyani alias Bauna from Agra.

“These are hardened criminals who make a living through crime. They were on the lookout for targets and carried out crimes where shops and victims were in an isolated place, offering them a chance to escape,” said Saharan.
