Baby Chahat’s family gets call from PGI for treatment
AMRITSAR: The family of obese baby Chahat, who had returned from the PGIMER to Amritsar on May 16 as they were unable to afford Rs 2 lakh for initial tests, are now seeing a ray of hope as a PGI doctor has called the family for treatment of the child.
The new development comes in the wake of the Punjab and Haryana high court’s notices to the state government and the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) for ‘turning back’ on Chahat.
Chahat’s father Suraj told Hindustan Times that they got a call from a PGI doctor who has called them for treatment of Chahat on August 7.
“We returned from PGI when we got to know about the huge expenses for her treatment. We all were shattered and were feeling helpless, but now there is a ray of hope. I don’t know what exemption we will get in the expenses for Chahat’s treatment. A clear picture would emerge after we reach there.”
He added, “I request minister Navjot Singh Sidhu, who is MLA of our area, to support us in case there is any further hitch in her treatment.”
Chahat was born on July 24, 2016 through normal delivery. Her weight was normal then, but she started gaining it when she was 4-month-old. She turned one-year-old on Monday and now she weighs around 20kg, almost double than the normal weight at this age.
