Valtoha appears in court, gets bail
A local court on Tuesday granted bail to senior Akali leader Virsa Singh Valtoha in a case wherein he is accused of threatening and abusing former Tarn Taran deputy commissioner and some cops.
Valtoha appeared before the court of additional chief judicial magistrate Rana Kanwardeep Kaur and filed a bail plea through his lawyer JS Dhillon which was accepted by the magistrate.
The complaint was filed by Congress leader Tejpreet Singh Peter Sandhu to the then the then senior superintendent of police (SSP) Harjit Singh on the basis of a video that went viral on the social media.
The video, recorded on June 12, showed Valtoha ‘threatening’ Tarn Taran deputy commissioner DPS Kharbanda and station house officers (SHOs) with dire consequences for ‘harassing’ his party workers, who were sitting on a dharna.
Navjot Kaur Chabba, the counsel of the complainant, said the next hearing is on August 19.
“The court has made it mandatory for Valtoha to appear before it personally during every hearing,” said Chabba.
The Sadar police station had filed a daily diary report (DDR) under Section 189 (threat of injury to public servant) in the district court, initiating legal action against the SAD leader.
Valtoha, a former Khemkaran MLA, has dubbed the case as political vendetta of the Congress government.
