MUMBAI: Punjab-based Bollywood singer Yash Wadali was arrested late on Thursday night from a lounge in Oshiwara in connection with a molestation case filed against him.

Born in Jalandhar, Wadali was booked for allegedly molesting a woman at a birthday party in Goregaon (West) early on Wednesday. Wadali’s friend was celebrating his birthday at Garden Estate apartment around 5am. The woman and Wadali were invited to the celebration.

The 39-year-old woman told police that Wadali allegedly abused her while singing. “Wadali, who is a professional singer, abused her on the pretext of singing. He pulled her collar and molested her. We have arrested him from Oshiwara bar,” said Santosh Bhandare, senior inspector at Bangur Nagar police station.

Acting on the woman’s complaint, the police registered a case under Sections 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty) and 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) against the singer.

Wadali, however, told police the complaint against him was false, and that the woman was “drunk and not in her senses”. “The woman had abused and threatened me,” Wadali told the police.

Wadali’s most popular songs include “Sanam Re” and “Teri Yaad”. He has also song albums with Mika Singh.
