SAGAR: Adding to the tally of mysterious hair-chopping incidents in Haryana, Rajasthan, Delhi and Uttar Pradesh, four incidents of braid cutting were reported from the Bundelkhand region in the past 48 hours.

Gayatri, a resident of Patha village in Damoh, said she was sleeping on the intervening night of Wednesday and Thursday when she felt someone overpowering her. When the 26-year-old woke up, she found that her braid had been cut and immediately informed her husband and mother-in-law. Later, Gayatri complained of severe headache, vomiting and uneasiness. When villagers came to know about the incident, they applied cow dung and turmeric paste on the gates of their houses to ‘ward off’ evil.

Two similar incidents were reported from Tikamgarh district. Uma Ahirwar, a resident of Tarichar Khurd village under Sendiri police station, was going towards her agricultural field in the afternoon on Thursday when she fainted. On regaining consciousness, she found that her braid had been cut.

On Friday morning, Pooja Kori from ward number 5 of Niwari town complained that her braid was chopped off on Thursday night while she was asleep.

The fourth ‘victim’ was Kallo Bai of Sagar’s Bambhori village.

Kallo Bai told the media at Bundelkhand Medical College (BMC) that she was washing her hands outside her house when she felt a cat-like animal attacking her with sharp claws on her mouth and forehead.

The woman said she fainted due to the attack and when she regained consciousness, she found that her braid had been cut. She had a severe headache and came to the BMC with her husband for treatment.
