BHAMBRI IN QUARTERS OF CITI OPEN

WASHINGTON D.C: A day after stunning defending champion Gael Monfils of France, Indian qualifier Yuki Bhambri swept aside Guido Pella of Argentina to enter quarter-finals of the ongoing Citi Open here on Friday. Bhambri, ranked 200th in world rankings, recovered from a set down to register an emphatic 6-7, 6-3, 6-1 win over Pella. This will be only the second appearance for Bhambri in the quarterfin­als of an ATP World Tour event

PRANNOY, SOURABH OUT

AUCKLAND: Indian shuttler HS Prannoy bowed out of the New Zealand Grand Prix Gold tournament after 11th seed Lin Yu Hsien of Chinese Taipei beat him 10-21, 22-20, 23-21 in the quarter-finals here on Friday. Seventh-seeded Sourabh Verma also lost 16-21, 19-21 to Hong Kong’s Lee Cheuk Yiu in his last-eight clash .

BRONZE FOR MANJU

NEWDELHI: India’s Manju Kumari has won the bronze medal with a 2-0 victory over Ukraine’s Ilona Prokopevni­uk in the Junior World Wrestling Championsh­ip in Tampere, Finland. Manju started off with a 5-1 win over Bulgaria’s Aleksandri­na Nikolaeva Kashinova. In her repechage bout, Manju beat Canada’s Tianna Grace Kennett 4-0 to reach the bronze-medal play-offs.
